The PSA Annual Exhibition and the Butler Institute of American Art

A special distinction of the PSA Annual Exhibition is its continuing association with the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.

Each year, selected works from the PSA Annual Exhibition are invited for presentation in the Flora B. Giffuni Gallery of American Pastels, extending the reach of the exhibition beyond New York and into a museum setting devoted to American art.

For participating artists, inclusion in the Butler presentation represents recognition beyond acceptance into the Annual itself. It places their work within an institutional context and alongside the legacy of artists who have helped shape the pastel medium across generations.

In select cases, works may also be considered for inclusion in the museum’s permanent collection, offering artists the rare opportunity to become part of a lasting historical record.

The relationship between PSA and the Butler connects today’s outstanding pastel painters with an important American institution, further reinforcing the Annual Exhibition’s reputation as a premier international exhibition devoted to pastel.

Together, these organizations continue to affirm pastel as a medium of excellence, vitality, and enduring artistic importance.

The works showcased were selected by Dr. Zona from the Pastel Society of America’s 53rd Annual Exhibition held in September 2025 at the Galleries of the National Arts Club, New York City.
