A Letter from Our President
During the week when New York’s gallery scene reawakens each fall, the Pastel Society of America continues a tradition that predates the modern gallery system. Before commercial galleries became the primary venues for artists, professional and aspiring painters relied on exhibitor societies to present their work and gain recognition among their peers.
The PSA Annual Exhibition, held each September at the National Arts Club on Gramercy Park, carries this legacy forward. It stands in direct lineage to The Pastelists, whose final exhibition took place in 1915 in the Grand Gallery of the National Arts Club.
Today, the Annual remains a highly competitive international juried exhibition. A panel of three distinguished PSA members selects the work, with a curatorial professional serving as the sole juror for awards. Each year, more than $35,000 in cash and material prizes are presented during a gala celebration at the Club.
